Atlas Mountains

The Atlas Mountains cross northwest Africa through Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia, separating the Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts from the Sahara. The High Atlas in Morocco holds the highest peak, Toubkal, at about 4,165 m. Berber villages, valley trails and mule-assisted treks are central to hiking here, with Imlil a common starting point.
