Mount Ida, also known as Psiloritis, is the highest mountain on Crete, at about 2,456 m. In Greek myth the infant Zeus was hidden in a cave on its slopes. The massif has deep gorges, high plateaus such as Nida, and shepherd villages. The E4 European long-distance path passes by, and hikers climb the summit from the Nida plateau.
