The Alcantara Gorges are a narrow valley in Sicily, Italy, where the Alcantara River has cut through dark basalt left by lava flows. Smooth, columnar rock walls rise from clear cold water. Visitors walk and wade through the gorge in the river itself and follow nearby paths.
