Huascarán, at about 6,768 m, is the highest mountain in Peru and in the tropics, rising in the Cordillera Blanca above the city of Huaraz. It stands inside Huascarán National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site with glacial lakes and many other peaks. Climbers use base camps in the valleys, and trekkers circle the range on multi-day routes.
