Mer de Glace

The Mer de Glace is the longest glacier in France, on the northern slopes of the Mont Blanc massif near Chamonix, at about 1,500 m. A small railway climbs from the valley to a viewpoint, and an ice cave is cut into the glacier each year. Walkers follow trails along the valley sides to see the ice from above.
