Pontic Mountains
The Pontic Mountains run parallel to Turkey's Black Sea coast, from the west toward the Caucasus in the east. The highest part is the Kaçkar range, reaching about 3,937 m. Humid forests cover the northern slopes and drier steppe the south. Highland pastures, called yaylas, and long hiking routes are central to outdoor life here.
