Apennines

The Apennines are the mountain chain that runs down the length of the Italian peninsula, about 1,200 km from north to south, forming the backbone of the country. The highest point, Corno Grande in the Gran Sasso, reaches about 2,912 m. Villages, beech forests and national parks line the range, and long trails such as the Sentiero Italia follow its crest.
