Askja

Askja is a volcanic caldera of 1,516 m in the central highlands of Iceland, inside the Dyngjufjöll mountains in the Vatnajökull National Park. A deep lake called Öskjuvatn lies within the caldera, next to a small explosion crater called Víti with warm water. Visitors reach it by highland tracks from the north and walk across the lava desert.
