Highlands of Iceland

The Highlands of Iceland are the uninhabited interior of the island, a high plateau of volcanic desert, lava fields, glaciers and geothermal areas, reaching about 2,110 m. Most of the area is reached only by mountain roads in summer. Landmannalaugar, the Kjölur route and mountain huts serve walkers on long routes such as the Laugavegur.
