Karakul
Karakul is a high-altitude lake in the Pamir Mountains of Tajikistan, at 3,900 m, formed in a meteorite impact crater according to one hypothesis. It is salty and surrounded by bare mountains. Travellers see it on the Pamir Highway between Murghab and Kyrgyzstan.
