Mount Asama

Mount Asama is an active stratovolcano of 2,568 m on the border of Gunma and Nagano prefectures in central Japan, near the resort town of Karuizawa. A wide volcanic cone rises above plateau forest and farmland. Walkers use the trails on its lower slopes and the highland around its base, while the upper cone is reached by hiking routes from nearby passes.
