Merapi

Merapi is a steep stratovolcano of 2,910 m on the border of Central Java and Yogyakarta in Indonesia, and one of the country's most active. Villages and farmland climb its slopes, and the city of Yogyakarta lies to the south. Hikers approach the upper trails from the mountain's flanks, where forest gives way to bare volcanic rock.
