Mount Elgon

Mount Elgon, at about 4,321 m, is an extinct shield volcano on the border of Uganda and Kenya, with one of the largest volcanic calderas in the world. Its slopes have moorland, bamboo forest and caves, and are protected in national parks on both sides. Hikers take multi-day walks to the caldera rim and the highest summit area, Wagagai.
